AARP's Solution Session at the World Summit 2025 (in-person only): 

Action Plans on Ageing: Innovative Policy Tools to Drive Social Progress for All

This session will spotlight exemplar strategies and action plans dedicated to ageing, share policy considerations to improve future design and implementation of action plans on ageing including practices that engage older persons and civil society organizations in policy design and development, and the session will disseminate promising policies, practices, and programmatic innovations – taking place as a consequence of action plan implementation – globally to support ageing populations.

Across the world, populations are ageing rapidly as fertility and mortality rates decline while life expectancy increases. By 2050, there will be more than 2 billion people aged 60 years or older with a projected nearly 66 percent residing in low-and-middle income countries.  This unprecedented demographic transformation is poised to place further fiscal pressure on social protection and health systems, as well as change labor dynamic. This session will spotlight exemplar strategies and action plans dedicated to ageing, share policy considerations to improve future design and implementation of action plans on ageing including practices that engage older persons and civil society organizations in policy design and development, and the session will disseminate promising policies, practices, and programmatic innovations – taking place as a consequence of action plan implementation – globally to support ageing populations.

  • Promote knowledge and awareness of Action Plans on Ageing – burgeoning policy instruments emerging globally and that have enormous consequences to strengthen social development for all population segments over the life course
  • Introduce novel online dashboard tools to empower policymakers and practitioners to assess knowledge and policy gaps and allow analytical comparisons of actions plans on ageing throughout the world
  • Strengthen partnership among governments, UN agencies, and civil society, and identifying pathways for collaboration.
